Conference: Sounding Dutch Coloniality
Sounding Dutch Coloniality – 29-31 October 2026
This interdisciplinary conference brings together researchers, musicians, and artists to address the role of music, sound, and silence in the history and present of Dutch colonialism and (de)coloniality.
The event explores the diverse ways in which music and sound are connected to colonial power structures, resistance, identity, and memory. The program comprises lectures, conversations, interviews, and live performances, creating encounters and connections between academic and artistic perspectives.
An overview of the conference program can be found below. A full program will be available shortly.
Registration is free through this link. Please register for all three days if attending the full conference.
This conference will take place at the ZO Jazz Stage in Amsterdam. More information with regard to travel and accommodation can be found on the registration page.
This conference is organized as part of an ERC-funded research project on Improvised Music and Decolonisation (IMPRODECO) based at Utrecht University, investigating the entanglements of jazz, improvised music, and coloniality in the Netherlands.
